Deny My Freedom)
As a kid, I was always aware of the news, even if I couldn't comprehend the broad scope of the events that were occurring. What really woke me up to politics, though, was the 2000 election. To a high school student like I was at the time, it seemed like a fairly simple choice to me - Gore was clearly an intellectual who had a grasp of the issues, while Bush was a bumbling fool at best and an incompetent loafer at worst. I wasn't a lawyer, but the Supreme Court's decision to halt the recount reeked of politics at its worst. I decided to follow politics throughout my high school years, and since entering college, I've been relatively active ever since. Who knows what the future will hold, but I am forever thankful for being surrounded by people - my parents and my teachers in particular - for always pushing me to learn as much as I can and to never stop asking questions. Being informed really does make a difference.
So my question to you is this: what made you get involved in the political process?
