"There will be no early withdrawal as long as we run the Congress and occupy the White House." - Bush's extraordinarily blustery red-faced speech last night.
Link.
That Iraq will continue to be a quaqmire for the United States if Bush and the Republicans keep control of the government is the central issue of the 2006 election in my opinion. MORE.

All those calling for a Democratic plan for Iraq, for exit plans, for deadlines for withdrawal, for some answer to the quagmire ignore the basic premise forwarded in this editorial. This is a "dangerous and ill-defined mission with no realistic plan for success and no end in sight," and it's not the Democrats' mess. This is Bush's quagmire, and the fact that it continues to play out in such horrific particulars is the fault of the Rubber Stamp Republican Congress that has completely abdicated its responsibility as a check on the executive.
It is up to the Bush administration and the Republican party to explain what their plan is for Iraq. It can't be solved by Democrats and we can't have a realistic discussion about a Democratic plan until and unless we regain at least one house of Congress in November. Until then, Bush and the Rubber Stamp Republican Congress will continue to only deal with delusion when it comes to Iraq.
This seems to me a strong message for the Democrats for this election.
