A diary today said Ohio is losing one of its only three
progressive radio stations.
My fellow Democrats (and other progressive parties), to duplicate what that station does for free would cost us MILLIONS.
The Republicans pull no punches promoting their media, from Limbaugh to Fox; and Scarborough went straight from Congress, to a TV show, and sitting behind Bush on the campaign rostrum; and then Tony Snow...
There is continual mutual support between conservative media and the Republicans, so why don't we do the same?
For a start, why not:
- Use our national and state emailing lists to ask our people to:
Find a station
Listen (set your car radio pre-sets).
Tell their friends. (By email, water cooler, bumper sticker, and add links to their blogs, email, etc.)
Buy from their sponsors.
Advertise if they own businesses.
- Include progressive radio links on our web sites and emails.
- Encourage our hi-profile Democrats to lend "cred" by calling in. (They have started doing this--let's do more.)
- Feature progressive stations and personalities in our newsletters, news releases, etc.
Can you think of other ideas?
Can you think of any reason to NOT do this? I think the fear that "if we do it, the Republicans will too" is moot. The airways are ALREADY totally saturated by the right-wing noise machine. Just try to NOT encounter Rush Limbaugh on your AM dial.
(And, yes, there are some AAR programs that could be improved--but the WORST there is better than Limbaugh.)
