The New York Times just posted a story about a Heritage Foundation panel on "24" and its impact on the public's perception of fighting terroism. Now I teach popular culture at the college level so I see nothing wrong with this type of activity. In fact, it can add to our public dialogue and be entertaining. After reading the NYT story I see that it was none of this. But it was more proof that "They" are playing a game and having a great time.
More after the break.
''You got lucky with 9/11 happening shortly after the show started.'' Who else could say such a thing but Rush Limbaugh? He was the host of the panel and made that statement. He quickly corrected himself but what he said shows that he does not take any of this seriously. He along with people like audience member Clarence Thomas are playing games with people's lives. "They" are winning and we are losing and some of us are dieing.
Take the time to read the article. http://www.nytimes.com/... It is reminder of what we are up against.
- Ignorant people who don't understand popular culture. These are the same people who claimed that South Park was a conservative show.
- People who not only ridicule nuance, but can't conceive of if. "24" is a pro-American show? WTF. Yes, this is a show with some disturbing instances of torture. But it has also show that for the most part it does not work. "24" is great escapist entertinment. Anyone with any doubts only had to hear the James Bond style guitar riff used for both Jack and Chloe this season.
- People who think they can have panels like this to pose the idea that it is television that is giving the false impression that terrorism can be solved in 24 hours. Give me a break! All we needed to do was to have a President who knew how to respond to a warning that one of the most evil men in the world was determined to attack us.
Oh, and by the way WTF was Chertoff doing at this thing??? My god we are at war! Ha!
