Hot of the heels of the furor raised at the Times for disclosure last week of the government's oversight of financial transactions comes todays nugget of joy leveled at the
Associated Press for "incorrect(ly) claims" of scientists praise for Al Gore's film
An Inconvenient Truth
Josh Marshall has the post listed over at Talking Points Memo
Despite the gripping battle on the hill today over
flag burning that has clearly weakened American resolve in the War on Terror, Senator James Inhofe and his advisors were torn away from the debate to issue the following
Majority Press Release seeking to debunk the claim that a consensus exists as to the accuracy of Al Gore's movie. The Committee on Environment and Public Works would never stake out an advocate position now would it?
The June 27, 2006 Associated Press (AP) article titled "Scientists OK Gore's Movie for Accuracy" by Seth Borenstein raises some serious questions about AP's bias and methodology.
AP chose to ignore the scores of scientists who have harshly criticized the science presented in former Vice President Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth."
In the interest of full disclosure, the AP should release the names of the "more than 100 top climate researchers" they attempted to contact to review "An Inconvenient Truth." AP should also name all 19 scientists who gave Gore "five stars for accuracy." AP claims 19 scientists viewed Gore's movie, but it only quotes five of them in its article. AP should also release the names of the so-called scientific "skeptics" they claim to have contacted.
Woah....apparently they would. And, while their at it, how about calling out all of those so-called scientists? Let's line 'em all up and ask 'em for ourselves what they think of climate change, eh?
How, perfectly....ummm, lemme see here.....fascist!
Wait, there's more!
Professor Bob Carter, of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University in Australia, on Gore's film:
"Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."
"The man is an embarrassment to US science and its many fine practitioners, a lot of whom know (but feel unable to state publicly) that his propaganda crusade is mostly based on junk science." - Bob Carter as quoted in the Canadian Free Press, June 12, 2006
LMFAO, sorry, I have to break the tone off here....I just can't snark any longer, this is too damn funny....who the hell is this guy? It'd be one thing to pull out a well-known, well-respected voice on the atmosphere and climate change, but instead they turned to some no-name from Blowhard University half-way around the world!! They might as well have quoted a staff intern.
Go read the release for yourself and feel free to reach the contacts at the top of the page and perhaps share your feelings of gratitude for addressing such a threatening article and having researched the opposing opinion so thoroughly...
