    Cutting off our trade

    Establishing an arbitrary government

    Enlarging its boundaries to introduce absolute rule

    Declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for all of us

    Waging war on us

    Burnt our towns and destroyed the life of our people

    Transporting large armies.

    The hope of democracy is not dead. The signers put body and soul on the line to write this document. It is not out of date nor irrelevant in the 21st century. Its about free people giving consent to be governed not the other way around.
