The Shrub, and PNAC have once again proven that they can fail at every possible level of government.
Here is the first paragraph in this story:
FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - A diversion of dollars to help fight the war in Iraq has helped create a $530 million shortfall for Army posts at home and abroad, leaving some unable to pay utility bills or even cut the grass.
More on the flip.
So, the US of A can't even afford to cut grass?
There is a half of a BILLION short fall for normal services on our bases. Electricity, Water, Gas, FUCKING trash removal.
So, why are they short on money? Here you go:
Reason No. 1: Cost of fuel
The skyrocketing cost of fuel is partly to blame, and it also is costing more to pay civilians in Asia and Europe, Oertwig said. Another major factor is the practice of funding the war through spending bills outside the annual budget.
Hmm, cost of fuel, seems like a pretty consistent issue will all people across the country that aren't, you know, rich.
And, how about this from an actual Republican?
That alarms U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican whose district includes Fort Sam Houston.
In a letter to Army Secretary Francis Harvey, Smith said he worries the budget crisis will affect Fort Sam Houston's ability to accommodate the 11,000 additional personnel being sent there starting next year by the Base Closure and Realignment Commission.
"That Fort Sam cannot even pay for basic post operations is, frankly, Mr. Secretary, a disgrace," he said.
Of course, he is probably just worried about votes.
So now, not only are our troops doing without, their loved ones back home or on the bases overseas are doing without.
Good job clueless George.
OK, I'm not good at this diary stuff, but I read this earlier, and posted on an open thread that someone should diary it. I've taken a long time just to get this much done, so if someone posted something while I was doing this, forgive me.
I just think this is important, now our troops families are going to be impacted by this bullshit administration.
