In an article published on July 5 in the online version of
Jewish Life, Lieberman advisor John Droney had this to say about Jewish Democrats in Connecticut.
"I find the behavior of a large segment of the Jewish community to be reprehensible and outrageous," said John Droney, a former chairman of the state party who is advising Lieberman to run as an independent. "When he's in trouble like this, they all ought to rally to him. It's too bad that you have to listen to an Irish-American to realize that you've got to support your own home cooking."
No, Mr. Droney, you are a reprehensible bigot, pandering to ethnic stereotypes and further perpetrating damaging myths about the behavior of Jews as a group.
The backstory to this is found in the same article:
But an internal Democratic poll of Connecticut Jews sees Lamont leading by 50 percent to 41 percent, JTA has learned. The sample was small, but the results were a dramatic departure from the 90-plus approval rating Lieberman scored among Jews after Al Gore named him as his running mate in 2000.
Now here's the deal.
I am Jewish. My family is Jewish. Some are Liberal Democrats. Some (like me) are Leftists who reluctantly recognize the importance of working with and for Democrats for the time being.
Some, like my father, are misanthropic Libertarians. Some, like my Uncle, are moderate Republicans.
We DO NOT VOTE FOR CANDIDATES SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY SHARE OUR HERITAGE.
Albert Einstein was a Jew. Hooray.
So was Edward Teller. Boooo!
Paul Wolfowitz is Jewish. BOOOOO!!! HISSSSSS!!
So are Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky. YAY! Go Team!
So, Mr. Droney, why don't you apologize for your racial profiling, stereotyping and expectation that Jewish Democrats from Connecticut owe their vote to Joe Lieberman simply because he shares heritage with them?
Your comments reveal you to be a low thinker, a low person, and a poisoned soul.
Jewish Democrats and Jewish Liberals support candidates who agree with their positions. Positions that are generally liberal on issues of war and peace, economics, social security, the right to choose, and the right to affordable health care.
If Jewish people are not supporting Joe Lieberman it is because Joe Lieberman is espousing political ideas and taking political stances that are at odds with the political outlook of those people.
Being Jewish should not, and does not (at least based on that poll) have ANYTHING to do with it.
Grouping people based on their ethnicity, heritage, genetic background is WRONG, it is OFFENSIVE, and it SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED in our political discourse.
John Droney should be ashamed of himself.
Joe Lieberman should fire him publically and immediately, and distance himself from such offensive remarks at once.
For shame.
