Let us pray* this evening for redemption:
From the impatience that prevents us from discerning your purpose in pain and sorrow:
Save us.
From refusing to share the suffering of the world, from seeking only comfort and pleasure, from forgetting those in distress, from the selfishness that brings needless grief to others:
Save us.
Almighty and All-Loving One, in the afflictions of your people you are yourself afflicted;
hear us as we pray for those who suffer.
Silent prayer
*meditate, hold in good and active thought
For all who are hindered in the race of life through no fault of their own; for the defective and delicate, and for those who are disabled;
Hear our prayer.
For those whose livelihood is insecure; for the hungry, the homeless and destitute; for those who are overworked, downtrodden, and in despair;
Hear our prayer.
For little children whose surroundings hide from them your love and beauty; for the fatherless and motherless, and for the unwanted;
Hear our prayer.
For prisoners and captives, and all suffering from oppression;
Hear our prayer.
For all who are suffering because of their faithfulness to conviction and duty;
Hear our prayer.
For those who have to bear their burdens alone; for those who are in doubt and anguish of soul; for those who are oversensitive, and for those who suffer through their own wrongdoing;
Hear our prayer.
For all who do not pray for themselves, and for all who do not have the consolation of the prayers of others, and for all whose anguish is unrelieved by the knowledge of your love;
Hear our prayer.
For the infirm and aged, and all who are growing weary with the journey of life; and for all who are passing through the valley of death;
Hear our prayer.
For all forgotten by us, but dear to you;
Hear our prayer.
O God, have regard to our prayers, answer them in your compassion, and make us the channels of your infinite pity and helpfulness.
Amen.
