I saw a rerun of a documentary made by a French filmmaker last evening. (well most of it, and re-watched it this morning on google video. I cant stay up past 11 most nights anymore ) This film by award-winning French director William Karel (Dark Side of the Moon), and produced by Agnès Vicariot Jean-François Lepetit. It is a Flach Film Production in association with France 2. A very serious presentation with supporting evidence.
Now, I'm well aware that this is a two year old film, and for many here its probably old news. But for those that havent seen it, or those that want to see it again:
Le Monde Selon Bush/The world according to Bush
It's a well laid out damnation of the Bush Admin and the first 1000 days. A lot of information is included about the intelligence of the president, his support from the right wing fundamentalists, and the reasons behind the Occupation of Iraq. (I have refused to use the word WAR for this debacle since 2002)Connections between the powers that be are a large part of this story.
This film was supposed to air at Cannes in 2004, but was bumped at the last minute for Michael Moores Fahrenheit 9/11. The festivals artistic director didn't want Cannes to appear too "anti American".
So this documentary has aired in France, at some film festivals, and on Canadian Television on the show The Passionate Eye. Its available for purchase online....
The version of This film that is on Google Video, is slightly confusing. It is a French film, that has been subtitled. But the interviews that were done with English speaking experts have been over dubbed in French. So there's a lot parts with two commentaries, and the English subtitles. Keeps one alert at any rate. ( My limited high school French didn't serve me well.)
A lot of the information within the film is now acknowledged as fact, but in this context and the way it is compiled, its still a good must see refresher of the facts and the faces.
Some may seem a bit tin foil hatish....but the interview with Hans Blix, and the background on his discreditation and the Bush administrations work at shutting him up is really interesting. The UN coverage is something missing in most Reports and documentaries.
There is also an interview with Joe Wilson, (He seems very solid in speaking french BTW) and the speech by Senator Byrd denouncing the pre emptive strike.
If you haven't seen this, it's a good idea. Just to realign the facts in your own mind in one neat little package.
(I really thought the part where the US military is ordering an Iraqi family out of their own home, and ordering them to the ground, speaking in English! Was galling and telling of the attitudes at work here.)
Heres some reviews of this film, to watch it one needs to be able to invest an hour and a half, plus change.
