Thank goodness
Riverbend is still there. It's been a month since her last post and many of us were so very worried.
But that's the last of the good news. Her post is heart breaking. She speaks of the heat, the flies, the atrocities, the attacks, the rapes, and the sheer dispair.
Please recommend this so that everyone can read this important first-hand account of the situation in Baghdad.
She speaks of a friend, a young engineer, who was killed in the last few days and of the pain she felt when she opened her email to see unopened the three messages he sent her the night before he was shot. (Some jokes, cat pictures, and a poem.)
She asks why the Americans don't "just go home." There's more....
Riverbend asks
Why don't the Americans just go home? They've done enough damage and we hear talk of how things will fall apart in Iraq if they 'cut and run', but the fact is that they aren't doing anything right now. How much worse can it get? People are being killed in the streets and in their own homes- what's being done about it? Nothing. It's convenient for them- Iraqis can kill each other and they can sit by and watch the bloodshed- unless they want to join in with murder and rape.
Gray haired old lady that I am, I wish I could burst into the oval office and pound George W. with my angry fists.
My words dry up in my mouth when I try to speak of it. Just go and read her words.
