I am asking this because I honestly do not know what I would do.
The situation at present: Hizbollah is launching countless rockets at Israel across the border from Lebanon and holding two Israeli troops hostage.
You are the leader. What do you do?
I have seen a lot of condemnation of Israel's current policy of bombing Lebanon and maybe it is justified. I'm really not sure because if I were in the situation Olmert is in, I really have no idea how I would resolve it.
Will this bombing of Lebanon solve the problem? I don't know that it will, it may very well escalate things and make them ten times worse... on the other hand, not retaliating seems like it would encourage more attacks because it would be a sign that they were working.
So what would you do? How would you resolve this conflict if you were the leader of Israel? What would you do to ensure that the killing on both sides would stop?
I would love to hear answers because I don't know what the solution could be.
UPDATE: Some of you are treating this exercize like wish fulfillment. I am asking this as if it were a real-world scenario. You have just been elected Israel's Prime Minister in the middle of this situation. You have to take into account the Israeli citizenry as well. Suggestions like 'agree to the right of return' or 'stomp Lebanon into the ground' are not going to happen in the real world. You'd definitely get deposed, possibly assassinated before anything like that could be carried out, so let's keep this grounded in reality please.
