the world is going to hell in a handbasket. World War III is brewing in the Middle East. Climate change is accelerating toward a dangerous tipping point. And the global economy has been weakened beyond relief by US deficit spending.
The tragedy of war will be Bush's doing, pure and simple. He started the terrible ball rolling with his preemptive invasion in Iraq - and he is apparently too stupid or too stubborn to reconsider his error in judgment. Even worse, the Republicans from North Carolina, from every state, who are supposed to represent our interests in Congress, have become mindless lapdogs, Bushbots in the most dangerous sense, unwilling and unable to put common good ahead of partisanship.
The tragedy of global climate change is a parallel problem, unfolding without a peep from the current administration. We are canaries in their mineshaft. We have suffered through six critical years of delusion under the science-hating lunatic fringe - six years when action might have been taken but wasn't. Six damned years of nothing but denial and greed.
The same with the budget. We are currently spending $8 billion each month on the war on terror, whatever that is, money we literally have to borrow from China. The burden on our economy and on our grandchildren will heavier than it should be.
In the face of these three challenges, we are governed by incompetence that knows no bounds. In North Carolina, that means Robin Hayes. Charles Taylor. Virginia Fuxx. Patrick McHenry. Elizabeth Dole. Richard Burr. They are Bush enablers. They are nothing to North Carolina.
When you look at the world and wonder how things could possibly have gotten so fucked up so fast, you'll find the answer in the White House, backed up by the North Carolina Republican Congressional delegation. When Topsail Island and the Outer Banks slip under the rising Atlantic waters, they are the people you will want to thank. When you lose your job or your life savings in a global financial meltdown, remember who we elected, who wanted responsibility. When your children start nuclear bomb drills in their classrooms, give a cheer for the Grand Old Party.
Republican incompetence and malice could not have come at a worse time in the history of our civilization. They are why we're in the fix we're in.
If America were being run like a business, they would be terminated with extreme prejudice.
