I keep blogging about the local issues because they are the national issues. Fort Dobson is the testing ground of the neo agenda - conservative, retired military, almost 50% Republican registration in many state house districts, headquarters for many christian right organizations. A central issue in the HD-21 race - school choice. Why?
The opponent is the Colorado representative for "All Childern MatterColorado". What is that - well, the local paper, the Gazette's article on
All Children Matter calls them "advocates for educational opportunities" However, at least one of the candidates they supported
Eric Christen is a member of the Alliance for the Separation of School and State (ASSS). He signed a statement vowing "I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education." Signers were warned not to sign if they intended to run for public office. Eric ran for and won a seat on a local school board. The Republican candidate in HD-21 was his campaign manager.
As Anna likes to state, "If you keep electing people who state they think government is the problem and that the only cure is to get rid of it, why are you surprised when it stops working for you?"
A company that started up int he same district as Mr. Christen was elected to was Life Skills Center. Who are they?
Well the founder was David Brennan of Ohio. Infamous quotes include, "I don't do things that don't make money" and " Most students don't need more than an 8th grade education.". This is who you want running your educational alternatives?
The big international issues are important. But states control schools, schools control minds - let's give the next generation a fighting chance.
