Competition is good for America and the current lack of competition is at the root of everything that is wrong with America. We need a viable third party to force the Republicans and Democrats to improve their performance. We need non-partisan voter redistricting, to ensure that the reelection of candidates is based on their merits, not on their color or political party. And we need a viable right to organize unions to encourage management to institute equitable treatment of employees.
Because the democratic right to organize has been effectively nullified by the Bush administration, CEO salaries are now 430 times the average workers pay. (In Japan the ratio is 55 times employee salary). Employee salaries are stagnant because we are forced to compete with people in 3rd world countries, or with subsidized health care. Without the right to organize, our jobs can be shifted anywhere in the world at the click of a mouse.
The Employee Free Choice Act helps solve some of these issues by increasing the penalties for corporations that break the law to stop workers from pushing back against policies that are damaging to our communities and nation.
My group, www.agilepeople.org is mounting a grassroots campaign to support the bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act, not because we like unions, but because we like America, and think our children should have the opportunity to have decent jobs.
Please support the bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act!
