All over the internets and in public, I'm called a liberal by various and sundry.
Let me ask all of Y'all something after the jump:
What would you call someone who:
-Believes in the rule of law leads to democracy, not vice versa
-Spent time in a ROTC program and believes in a strong military
-Subscribes to the Economist, Foreign Affairs and Reason
-Believes that free markets and free trade is good for America
-Cringes most of the time when he reads the Nation
-Believes Mumia Abu Jamal conspired with his brother to murder a uniformed cop
-Thinks Rush Limbaugh is a talented radio host
-Scores a Economic Left/Right: 1.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.87 on the political compass
Would you consider someone who met these criteria a liberal?
I don't.
Yet all I have to do is describe Bush as incompetent and a majority of his policies as foolish and I get tarred with a Liberal brush.
Ya know what, I'm cool with that, because if being a conservative means unyielding fealty to a horse's ass of a president, sticking my head in the sand when it comes to science and telling people how to live their lives through statute, then they can have it.
I thought government was about governing, identifing problems that in society and trying to remedy them in the most efficent manner possible, not playing politics to pad your bank account.
Silly me.
Apparently liberal and proud of it.
