I generally think of myself as an optimistic and upbeat person, but I must admit that the events of the last few weeks have been extremely distressing. Iraq is now in a full-scale civil war and the horrible fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, with Lebanese civilians bearing the brunt of the fighting. To make it even worse, the same evil geniuses that gave us the Iraq War are debating how great the fighting in Lebanon is and whether we should attack both Syria and Iran while we're at it. They're debating whether to call it WWIII or WWIV.
I was at Barnes & Noble this morning, because I wanted to pick up John Dean's Conservatives Without Conscience
and Ron Suskind's The One Percent Doctrine
. While I was browsing in the store, I came to a table labeled New Fiction
. On that table was Bernard Goldberg's book
100 110 People Who Are Screwing Up America
. That really blew my mind. Barnes & Noble is now recognizing Goldberg's book as a work of fiction! I had to laugh at that one.
I hope this means we're crossing some kind of boundary, where people are starting to recognize what a disaster that conservatives have been for this country. This doesn't mean we should let down are criticism of them, the conservatives are just as dangerous as they've ever been and perhaps more so. They still have a huge media bullhorn.
I choose to take this as a positive sign that what we're doing here is making a difference. We need to keep highlighting the wrong-doing and misbehavior of conservatives, but I'm hopeful.
