Yeah, I'm coming into this late (been working, sick, etc.), and yeah, it's been diaried before I'm sure, but I just now watched the video of Boxer defending Lieberman.

It makes me physically ill to see this woman, who I have trusted all these years, say these words... to watch her covering for LIEberman and appearing at an event FOR his benefit... it proves that "absolute power corrupts absolutely."

To see her avoiding the press like an Abramoff criminal... wearing her fancy suits that cost more than two months of my electricity bill while my family goes without health insurance and has bread for dinner...

So here's what I just emailed her via her website. I know it'll just be shitcanned (she can't be bothered with the icky little people apparently), but it made me feel better --

Senator Boxer:

What the heck?? I just watched this video:

...and I am stunned by what I saw.

You are not only appearing at an event in CT and ENDORSING Joe Lieberman (Pro-war, anti-choice, anti-separation of church and state, voted for cloture on Alito, first to stand up to applaud Bush's outrageous SOTU address...), but now you are LYING for him??

You know very well that he said this about hospitals refusing to help rape victims:

"In Connecticut, it shouldn't take more than a short ride to get to another hospital."

He didn't say "walk to get help from a hospital" or whatever BS you're trying to pass off here. You claim to have read what he said -- obviously you either read something completely different or you are lying to get this DINO elected.

I am saddened, shocked, angered, outraged and disappointed that you would travel to CT, endorse this career politician and egomaniac, and then LIE about what he said to the press. Did you think the American public wouldn't find out the truth?

I have been a faithful and proud Boxer voter for as long as you have been in office. No longer. You have lost my vote.

Ms. Boxer, you have shown your true colors -- you are nothing more than another wealthy elitist career politician, detached from what real people actually need, and running away from the press.

Meanwhile, my family has no health care, our car will likely be reposessed, and our power is due to be shut off in 8 days because we can't pay the bill.

Think about that while you dress in your fancy suits and eat expensive meals and fly first class to support DINO anti-choice candidates in other states.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    that is so, so sad.

I also was impressed with Boxer.

Frankly the end, with the goon cutting off questions reminded me of some bananna republic.

      Mrs. Boxer--

I'm feeling quite disappointed with your behavior campaigning for support for Mr. Lieberman.  His election is an issue for Connecticut voters; not California voters.  As a public official, you work for me, my family, and my neighbors--not for anyone else.

Issues for California voters are the Iraq war; illegal behavior in the administrative branch; and an overall spinelessness prevalent in our congress.  I don't want war in Iran.  I don't want war in North Korea.  I don't want more Jihadists.  I don't want more administrative lies.  I'm frickin' tired of the fear tactics.  I'm tired of being accused of being unpatriotic for calling this crap what it is.

You want to save Democrat seats in the Senate?  Maintaining the current class in congress is a proven plan of failure.  Maintinaing the same rhetoric only makes it worse.   Backing up the Fox News candidate is a terrible way to impress people like me with your interest in fixing our problems.  Wanna do better?  Cut the crap.  Speak your mind.  Make it clear that more of the same only leads us further down this awful path of disaster.

  •  Look, I'm not happy with Sen. Boxer either (6+ / 0-)

She does, however, have a right to support who she wants in the primary.

I don't expect her to agree with me on everything, and I particularly don't care for her support of Lieberman. It pales, however, next to her vote in favor of the Patriot Act and the abrogation of Congress' war powers that was the AUMF.

She's done a lot of work to make up for those votes, and I expect more. She'll have to do a lot more work to make up for her support of Lieberman.

But I'm not ready to give up on her yet.

and a member of the DSCC, and as such she has an obligation to defend incumbents.  I won't worry at all until after the primary.  If she still supports an independent Lieberman, then it's time for the long knives.  Until then, I love my Sen babs.

Sorry, but I call bullshit. Which must be why you don't see Feingold flying to CT to lie for Joe.

Besides, Lieberman ceased to be an actual Democrat years ago.

      •  Actively Campaigning (0+ / 0-)

Kos went over this is yesterday's FP story. Lots of Democratic incumbents have endorsed Lieberman in the primary, but few of them are actively campaigning for him in CT. She's not obligated by the DSCC to do anything more than give her endorsement.

I see your point and that video is uncomfortable.

But I believe that loyalty to party is not an entirely bad thing, and we  simply do not know what Boxer owers Lieberman in terms of political favors, what accounts she is settling.  And frankly, she didn't exactly get up on the podium and strike up the band for Joe.

I think there is a way that these Progressive Senators are turning out for Lieberman to say, 'Look...I'll support you because you have asked.  But I am not going to go to the mattresses from you. You get one appearance, maybe two, but then you are on your own.  We warned you this would happen.'

So, I'm holding out for Boxer...not quite ready to throw the Babsy out with the bathwater at this point.

  •  i think we need to work on (5+ / 0-)

defeating repubs, not beating up on Boxer. Once Ned is in the senate, this'll all be behind us. You can't understand all of the motivations a senator might have, especially one that is potentially colored by long term personal alliances.

If she starts supporting an independent Lieberman, then I might sing a different tune, however.

Obviously I'm not saying she should wear thrift store chic to Congress (even though that's what I wear because it's all I can afford), but I never see her in anything other than snappy expensive suits. And there she was in her snappy expensive suit, mouthing off for DINO Joe, and ducking down a side alley with a goon to hold off the riff-raff -- it said a lot to me about what kind of person she thinks is important.

for $1.8 million in San Rafael and bought a condo in Oakland.  So she clearly has the money to spend on nice clothes!

I get how you feel, but I have seen her in jeans and t-shirts before.  I can't vouch that they weren't designer jeans however.

I sent her a note expressing my dismay for her actions.  There are a couple of diaries that have her response...

to throw away all the good Boxer has done--let's not forget her action during the certification of the 2004 election--just because of her playing politics for a colleague. Come on, of all the issues to write off a government representative, her stance on someone other pol just doesn't get anywhere near the top of my list. I'll be pissed if she supports Lieberman in the general, but even then that act alone is not going to outweigh the good she's done as a very liberal senator.

If she sends you your rose back, please let me know so I can send her a replacement.

Good morning, everyone.  Boxer is a do-nothing waste of everyone's time.  When you get down to it, she's a single issue senator (reproductive rights) and barely does a decent job at that.  I've been complaining about her for years, and taking it on the chin from rabid kossacks... maybe now some around here will see her for the opportunist she is.

I'd be delighted if a couple of Ned Lamonts decided to run against the senators we have to put up with here.

  •  She lied. (4+ / 0-)

Point blank to defend someone who cant give his own allegiances to what is supposedly his own party.
Hes willing to risk dumping the seat to the rethugs, if the primary doesnt go his way.
If hes not going to show that hes a bigger man and that the Dems winning are more important as a whole, why is Boxer supporting that?
I could see her tossing her support behind him a lot better if he was willing to concede that the winner of the primary was the one to be backed.
Hes NOT going to do that, and Boxer should not campaign and lie for him at this point. He has no loyalty to the Dems. Therefore, this is not a good move on her part at all.
Thats the part that would bother me. (and does)
Apparently people are willing to look the other way when she supports a rougue (deceitful and unreliable scoundrel)  DINO. go figure.
I hope that this doesnt turn out badly, and that Lamont does get the seat. But if the worst happens with a split vote, then who will be partly to blame?
