Ah, the dog days of summer are upon us and what a summer it has been. Deadly, terrible heat; violent, torrential rain storms and costly, destructive, fires have marked this sixth year of the new millennium but has any of this deterred the stalwart Kossack from their mission of working to elect real democrats to public office in the United States? Not one bit. Yes, with just ninety two days remaining to remind, motivate, educate, inspire and register voters; the disciples of Kos are hard at work to bring about real change in America. Let's take a peak at what they've been blogging about after the break...
In these last 4 weeks and with just 92 days remaining until the midterm elections, we Kossaks have been very busy indeed. Here are the results of some searches that I conducted here yesterday morning,,,
Anyone else troubled by these numbers? It seems that our community has frittered away the first third of this crucial summer before the 2006 midterm elections debating, among other things; Zionism, the history of the Jewish State, the Arab/ Israeli conflict, the UN partition plan of 1948, Palestine, apartheid, anti-semitism and some truly despicable conspiracy theories involving the Jewish people as a whole. Think I'm nuts or exaggerating? Well, try this yourself. Do a comment search of the word Zionism over a 4 week period and then do the same with "midterm election" and compare the results. Now the last time I checked, there was no Zionist party in the United States threatening to unseat Democrats in the November midterms yet Zionism beats out "midterm election" in our comments by a 7:1 margin. This is crazy and, before we destroy ourselves, it must stop. The mission of this site is very clear and simple, electing real Democrats to office in the United States. The endless, repetitive, and sometimes hateful cascade of L/I/P screeds are not helping this goal. Frankly, in many cases, they seem to violate a number of diary rules of behavior. Namely...
14. Diaries which engage in wild speculation without any proof are strongly discouraged. Repeatedly posting diaries consisting largely or entirely of wild speculation is an abuse of site policy. Bear in mind that that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
15. Diaries which contain hateful or defamatory writing are prohibited.
16. Diaries which are deliberately designed to inflame are prohibited.
My fellow Kossaks, we have just 92 days left to alert; 92 days left to take action; 92 days left to raise money and, most importantly, just 92 days left to remind the American public and the American media of the crimes, abuses and mendacity of this American Administration and their enablers in the American Congress and in the American States. Just 92 days left to write about Katrina, Alito, Roberts, Plan B, Prescription D, inflation, Presidential holidays, abortion, the rule of law, torture, wire taps, privacy, Guantanamo, Iraq, body armor, 2600 dead, the American Taliban, Condi, Rummy, Terri, Frist, Allen, Stevens, Harris, Sensenbrenner, Burns, the Dukster, gas prices, oil, energy, global warming, signing statements, profiteering, Santorum, Science, and shooting an 80 year old man in the face.
Now, I fully understand that the catastrophe and carnage unfolding in Lebanon is partially a reflection of the foreign policy failures and ineptitude of the Bush Administration and I am not suggesting that all discussion of this terrible crisis be abandoned. However, given the astonishing number of diaries and comments already posted, it does seem reasonable to expect members here to 1.) be much more thorough in examining whether the content in their diary or comment has been covered before and 2.) then to ask themselves the following questions before posting...
*Will my writing hurt our efforts to elect real democrats in the United States?
*Will my writing hurt a member of our community?
*Will my writing disrupt our community?
*Will my writing embarass or reflect badly on our community?
If the answer to any these questions is no then hit post and If not, well, maybe it's time to give that processor a rest and go have a beer.
Yes, from the above statistics, I am certain that on November 3, 2006 we can all take pride in our great accomplishment of electing a Democratic Senator, whose last name begins with an L, to a Democratic State and of finally realising the age old dream of achieving a just and lasting peace in Israel and Palestine. (snark) Of course, in America we may still be fucked but you can't have everything. Really looking forward to reading through all of these wonderful diaries about Israel and Lebanon, particularly the ones which graphically depict dead children, but I have a feeling I should first renew my passport.
