Tonight i watched General Pace, Secr. of Defense Rumsfeld, and Sen. Warner all lie their asses off concerning whether the sectarian violence and possible looming civil war we are now faced with in Iraq was envisioned early on. All three said that no one from the President on down could have predicted this.
That's funny, i was one of millions who warned about several likely consequences of invading Iraq, including ethnic and religious violence and possible civil war. I didn't just make it up - i got it from all the experts who were screaming at the top of their lungs, but then many had been purged from the Pentagon by Rumsfeld or purged from the administration in favor of less-qualified ass-kissers who said what those that wanted to invade Iraq wanted to hear from them. Funny how top generals, the administration, and GOP senators with top-secret clearance amazingly couldn't predict what normal Americans that work all week at normal jobs and lead busy, normal lives with no special access to information were able to predict with ease.
Of course, we also predicted the absence of WMD's and were curiously right while the administration, the CIA's Tenet, and Rumsfeld got it all wrong. So, either they are astonishingly incompetent, or they were lying. Either way, i'm weary of us being right about this kind of shit while the current leadership is wrong. And it really is shit.
