Today, I was gonna use up valuable space to give my two cents about Mel Gibson and his latest troubles, but I found something even more disturbing today.
In my last blog, I reached out to Bill O'Reilly in his time of need. It seems that the great giant head is void of reality and as you all know void of reality has a Conservative bias, but enough about the falafel king.
Today, I want to reach out to ABC news veteran, Cokie Roberts.
Now you ask, why? What has Cokie done to warrant a liberal blogger to reach out and help her in time of need, well.
This morning on ABC, it seems that Cokie has this belief that a Ned Lamont victory would be "a disaster for the Democratic party," and lead to "chaos". She also went on to add that a Lamont victory would push the party to the left and would send a message to other Senators that "the only smart thing to do here is to play to your base."
Well, Cokie, it seems that not only you have a problem with Mr. Lamont, but the American people as well.
You see, if the Dems are playing to the base, well, that's all in good, because you see it's not just the base, it's the American people.
The American people in latest polls have come to believe that the Iraq war was a mistake and it's time for us to leave Iraq. The Republicans, on the other hand are playing the "Cut and Run" card to stir their rabid following. And, in my honest opinion, they seem to have no plan on how to solve Mr. Bush's massive lie in the battlefields of Baghdad.
Sure, Ned Lamont beating Joe Lieberman would spell disaster for a Democratic party besieged by corporate interests and quasi-Republican values.
That's why I believe this Tuesday's primary in Connecticut is do or die for the Democratic party.
If Lamont beats Lieberman, it will send a message to the Democratic party that the ideals of the New Democrat Movement or DLC aren't viable to not just the party itself, but the country as well.
The Democratic party, under the New Democrat Movement has "essentially the same purpose as the Christian coalition...to pull a broad political party dramatically to the Right," according to John Nichols of the Progressive.
Under this movement, the Democratic party's historical labor and minority base has eroded.
And, you can't spell DLC without its legions of groupies, a.k.a. corporate contributors. Bank One, Citigroup, Dow Chemical, DuPont, General Electric, Merrill Lynch, Microsoft, Philip Morris, etc, etc.
So I can see why somebody like Cokie Roberts is frightened of the notion of an outsider like Ned Lamont cruising towards victory over a Washington favorite like Joseph Lieberman.
But, I don't see the premise of a Lamont victory spelling disaster for the Senate or the people.
If Lamont wins it shows that someone is willing to stand up for the prinicples of this country rather than believing that the President is a moral equal to God and should be disqualified from criticism.
Joe Lieberman checcked his principles at the door and now it's time for him to go.
And, speaking of appealing to your base. Hasn't Mr. Bush done the same? I mean his veto of the Stem cell bill was clearly a way to rally the Religious Right to his side in his time of need. So, if anyone is accused of playing to his base it's the faux Texan with the bad accent and English.
Tuesday is important to not just the Democratic party but to the country. This nation needs someone with character and bedrock principles, not another Washington insider with a fake, folksy attitude.
