They don't actually fuck it up until it comes to transporting it.

The above article explains why a large portion of oil harvesting on the North Shore is shutting down. They've apparently found a leak in the last of three available pipelines.
Just this last year the North Slope had it's largest spill ever at over 260,000 barrels.
I just went to BP's website and splashed across their homepage were pictures of local alaskan wildlife, wolves, bears, birds, some clean snow thrown in for affect.
What a freaking joke. How can it take this long to find corrosion in what is perhaps one of the most important pipes in the North Shore operations? Any plumber or exhaust pro can tell you that at the very least, wack it with a hammer. If it sounds flat, it needs to be replaced. They'll also tell you that if you come across a hole the size of a dime, you'll find it surrounded by a tea saucer sized area of corrosion that has gotten that way over a couple years. Were are all these high tech methods for detecting weaknesses they always pitch on the Discovery Channel (ultrasound, x-rays, pressure tests)? I guess it turns out that for an industry making record profits, modern
technology is just too expensive to actually utilize. It's only good for the wow factor on cable television. Besides, who cares if they shut down that line, they'll just raise the price of every other barrel and profits well continue to flow. This whole things stinks. It makes no sense. I guess I shouldn't be to hard on them, they do, in part, sponsor my favorite PBS programs. Fucking deg
enerates.
...Here at exxon we gently coax animals away from marine drilling sites by playing recorded sounds of local sea predators.
Here at my house, I gently coax the neighbors dog out of my yard by firing off several rounds of my .45 colt. It's all part of maintaining my cleaner gentler neighbor image.
And don't forget the tanker Valdez. If you're republican you probably remember that situation as 15,000 oil soaked, suffocated, dead seabirds who ended up that way because they refused to take responsibility for their own actions.
