When you can keep your head while all around you are losing theirs, that takes courage. When all these redistricting plans keep falling from upon high on our campaign you might expect that we would be running around saying "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" ---Well I'm no Chicken Little!
We entered this race to restore honesty, integrity and common sense back to Congress, and to restore the checks and balances provided by our Constitution, so sorely missing in Washington. I committed to defeating an incumbent rubberstamp Republican and that commitment has not changed. I will chase Lamar Smith all over Texas if I have to....
We remain as committed, even more so, than we were a year ago when we began this campaign, and I'm not quitting until the last vote is counted! Democratically yours, John C."
Three weeks ago, I posted this message to all my supporters on my blog at
CourageforCongress.org.
That was how I felt then, and it is still how I feel today.
The redistricting ordered by the Federal Courts last week may have changed some of my precincts and some of my constituents, but it doesn't change my resolve. The people of Texas--good, honest, hardworking people, from San Antonio to Austin and throughout the Hill Country deserve hardworking, honest representation in Washington. All of us expect and deserve a government that works. Our government today is not working; the majority of us believe that our government is headed in the wrong direction. In order to get things right we need to change what isn't working with people who will work to get it right. That's why I am remaining in this race. I anxiously await what the Secretary of State's office will establish as the guidelines for filing, and I intend to re-file and let the residents of Congressional District 21 know that they have a choice. They can vote for change or they can allow more of the same.
I give them a clear choice: leadership, rather than blind partisanship. This is something the current officeholder has never given them before.
I want to be the eyes, and ears, and voice of the people of the 21st District in Congress.
At times like these, Congress needs Courage!
