Well, well, well, the perfect storm they said we would need is now on the horizon.
Do Nothing Doug Lamborn won the Republican primary for Colorado's Fifth District seat vacated by Joel Hefley.
The voters here couldn't have a more profound choice to make this November, as Jay Fawcett said:
Doug Lamborn is the American equivalent of an ayatollah. He is slavishly beholden to the extreme fundamentalists who have taken over the local Republican Party even as America moves on from such views.
With the nomination of Doug Lamborn to lose to me in November the Republican Party has confirmed the rumor of a hijacking. Only the dominance of the extremist Christian evangelical fundamentalists could explain the selection of this candidate.
If citizens are looking for candidates they can distinguish from preachers, the comparison between Doug and myself gives voters a clear and obvious choice.
They also said:
- Jay can't beat Hefley and Hefley won't retire - he did!
- Jay can't raise the money - He has!
- Mayor Lionel Rivera will win because he has 89% name recognition. Rivera got clobbered.
- The winner of the Republican Primary is going to Washington. He's not!
Here's what we say: This race has never been run before in Colorado's Fifth CD. We have Fighting Dem Vet with Gulf War I combat experience and a Bronze Star to boot; a rock-solid Democrat who's riding the sea change of voter discontent that's sweeping the country; and a fundamentalist conservative Christian anti-tax crusader who couldn't even pass his bills in the used-to-be-conservative Colorado Legislature.
Here's to the liberal-biased truth and the death blow to the fundamentalist extremism of Colorado's Republican Party.
Here's to watching the Weather Channel on a Tuesday in early November, looking for that perfect storm. Here's to a Democratic sweep of congressional seats in Colorado this year.
