(CNN) - "WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Terrorists were in the final stages of planning to blow up planes heading to the United States from Britain, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.
The plot was the "greatest terrorist threat" against the United States since 9/11, government officials are saying privately.
Information gathered after recent arrests in Pakistan convinced British investigators they had to act immediately to stop the plot, sources told CNN."
Somehow, I'm not completely convinced this was a real threat yet. We've seen this before. Remember a few months ago, the threat to the Sears tower? The arrests lead to us learning that, basically, a handful of bums in Florida thought it would be a cool idea to blow up the Sears tower, but had no connection to Muslims/Terrorism/Green Monsters.
I'm sad to say that the only credibility to this story is that the British Government is involved. They seem to take this whole "terrorism" thing more seriously, in that they don't seem to try to scare their citizens every chance they can get with it.
But still, this is the War On TerrorTM, most of it comes with the feelings of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Thanks to our leaders, I bet most people won't take this kind of stuff seriously until its too late, even those in public office.
So, I'll believe this non-story as a real story when the evidence comes in. For now, it could be 21 British douchebags with a "crazy idea," but no sense for executing it.
