As hard as I find this to believe, apparently 30% of Americans don't know what year the World Trade Center was attacked and 5% don't know what day of the year the attacks were on.
Heavy sigh.

The 2996 Project was recently brought to my attention. The project aim is to enlist 2996 bloggers to post a tribute to a victim of 9/11 on the upcoming September 2006 anniversary.
At this date, 1725 of 2996 victims have assigned to a blogger.
The process is easy. Register with the 2996 Project and either be assigned or choose a person to profile. I was randomly assigned to honor Brian D. Sweeney, a passenger on United Air Flight 175.
Search engines are provided directly on the information page provided for the 9/11 victim.
The 2996 is a fine public service well-needed in the current crappy political atmosphere and backlashes the comments of that bi-atch Ann Coulter regarding the 9/11 widows, "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much." (George Gurley, June 2006).
Quoting the 2996 Project:
"The idea is simple, but powerful: have a special tribute for each victim of 9/11, with each tribute being created by a different blogger. We started 2,996 Project to coordinate the creation of the tributes, and that's what this site is all about. Here you can sign up to make a tribute yourself, on your blog (we'll randomly assign a victim to you). You can also browse or search through either the victims that have already been assigned, or those that have not -- and you can get pointers to more information on all of them."
