The continued flying of the Confederate Flag, the battle flag of the defeated slaveholders, is continuing to
hurt South Carolina.
The NCAA is considering on extension of its ban on holding championship events in South Carolina because the state flies the Confederate flag on its State House grounds.
...
In 2001, the NCAA announced a two-year moratorium on awarding predetermined championships to South Carolina. That included championship events like the NCAAA basketball regionals or cross-country championships. The governing body has continued the ban indefinitely. They said in 2004 significant change on the issue had not taken place in South Carolina.
So, as long as the flag remains, we will continue to be denied championship games in our state. Nice. How much pain does it take before the racists stop fighting to keep their prize afloat?
The Confederate flag is not about heritage. Should a German state fly a Nazi flag because "it's their heritage?" No, it's not about heritage, it's about hate. South Carolina split from the Union so many years ago because Abraham Lincoln was elected President, and there was fear that he would allow more free states than slave states into the Union. This would destroy the grid-lock in Congress and allow for anti-slavery laws to be passed.
The Confederate flag not only represents slavery, but it represents an unwillingness to get along. It represents the snotty-nosed kid who gets mad and goes home because he lost a game. That snotty-nosed kid is ruining it for the rest of us, and South Carolina needs to give that brat a good whoopin'.
