Dear Denny Hastert:
Hi, Its me again! Your friendly neighborhood constiuent in Baghdad. I am confused about many many issues. Since, you allegedly were at one time a History and American Government teacher I figured there is a chance you might be able to set me straight! I am confused about the Pledge of Allegiance Denny! Yeah, I know what your thinking! (I'm in Baghdad and I'm concerned about the pledge of allegiance!) Ok, Denny let me get straight to the point maybe it isn't the pledge itself, but the bill you Republicans in Congress submitted: HR 2389 http://thomas.loc.gov/...
The key text of the law itself is stated here:
`(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), no court created by Act of Congress shall have any jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court shall have no appellate jurisdiction, to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, the Pledge of Allegiance, as defined in section 4 of title 4, or its recitation
Now, you see here Denny my problem with this legislation is well, what it seems that you guys the legislators are telling the courts about how they can and can't interpret laws. My memory is a bit foggy here Denny and I'm reaching way back into the attic to oh Seventh grade American Government or 11th Grade American Government and well a few warning bells are going off! I mean are you sure you guys in Congress can even tell the courts how to interpret the laws you make up? I remember this little thing called Checks and balances about how the courts are suupposed to interpret the laws you make. Oh, What was that document that thing about powers checking their balances was called in? The Constitution perhaps? Yeah, I know its hard to read the whole thing and Federalist papers and things like that.
Hell, I think I could be a lawmaker you know Denny! I'll make up a law real quick right now! I propose that Denny Hastert hereby be banned from Dunkin Donuts! All in favor say Aye!
Hey, Wait a minute I found this little thing on the web right here-

It seems your fellow Representative Louise Slaughter thinks this about your protection of the pledge of allegiance:
HR 2389 strips federal courts, including the Supreme Court, of the jurisdiction "to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, the Pledge of Allegiance, as defined in section 4 of title 4, or its recitation."
Wow! it seems sometimes I need validation from a much more important person than myself. It is nice to know I'm not a crack smoker! Surely Louise can't be crazy as well.
You, know Denny, while I'm sitting and thinking about it I have another issue with you regarding this whole Baghdad and Iraq thing. It seems on your website Denny you think this about Iraq:
"Just 12 days ago I returned from Iraq. I can tell this House that the morale of our fighting men and women there is sky high."
I am curious to know how you know the morale of us soldiers is high? I bet it must have been the 200 plus soldiers that filtered through division mental health at Camp Taji twelve mere miles north of Baghdad. I'm sure the 3 soldiers that committed suicide in Camp Taji in February-March also had sky high morale. I am also positive that the 172nd Stryker Brigade also has high morale. You just don't know Denny!
ps. In case none of yall don't know this is the website of the next congressman from the 14th CD in Illinois.
