I'm looking over the latest numbers and news from the Lieberman-Lamont race in CT and something struck me. The GOP candidate is polling at 4%. Are you kidding me that is near the margin of error for the poll, Lieberman the republicans choice.
Joe enjoys 75% support among republicans and is sounding very much like a republican by acting like Dick Cheney the man of 19% approval ratings.
I say Lamont should do the following to help his election efforts, this is a frame I think might work and I want your feedback.
Frame below the fold.
1. In every ad mention Lieberman supposed Liberal record on the environment and choice. Ask why would republicans why support a man with such Liberal leanings (Joe has said plenty of things). Point out that Joe was just playing politics and he doesn't really support these core democratic values.
This will do one of two things force Joe to defend his progressive values and Drive away GOP support. Or if Joe remains quiet he may drive away his remaining democratic support......get him to pledge to protect the environment and a women's right to choose etc etc, if he doesn't then point that out in ads.
2. Ask for 2 person debates where the GOP candidate is left out since he is polling so low. Say you'd be happy to debate the GOP candidate but your confused since the RNC and Whitehouse and many local republicans haven't endorsed anyone. You not sure who the republicans choice for CT is but it seems like its joe polling at 75%.
Again this will hopefully bring more Democrats your way. And probably shame many Republicans.
3. Overall you can't let Joe sit on a fence, that's what he's doing at this moment and that can't continue. Attack him on his progressive values and see if he steps up. He's the GOP candidate for senate. Continue with the George Bush's favorite Democrat meme and ask what Joe had to promise in exchange for the non-endorsements. Wonder aloud if he'll switch parties if elected by 75% of Republicans and 25% of the democrats.
4. Independent voters......IRAQ Iraq Iraq, Health care, and economics. Frame everything with Joe's failures over the years and talk about these issues strongly. These issues are very key to independent voters and in CT they will swing the tide. Don't let Joe get these voters by sitting on the fence knock him off.
