I got back earlier today from a week long vacation in Northern Arizona to find a ton of mail in my mailbox. Amongst the bills and junk mail (a lot of political junk mail), there were two interesting pieces. One was then invitation to my brother's wedding. The other was a square shaped piece from the
Jeff Latas for Congress campaign.
It was clearly a DVD, so I opened it and popped it in to find a killer video! The packaging was slick and attention grabbing. This could be the impetus for an upset here in S. AZ. More below the fold.
I'll refrain from going into too much detail on the packaging because you can see it
here.
All the parts of the disc itself are also featured on that link, but I want to discuss a bit. The 4 minute feature that the packaging touts is fantastic. It details Jeff's positions on Iraq, Energy, Healthcare and Immigration. It shows Jeff as the candidate with honesty, integrity and ideas. This is far more detailed than a 30 second spot and it's a great way to get the message out.
There are also segments that include Jeff's Bio, a moving speech by his wife, endorsements from Max Cleland and a local politician, Molly McKasson, the commercials they aired earlier in the season, and a speech by Cleland. In all the DVD is about 30 minutes max. I lost track of time a bit because it was so cool. What an innovative technique.
I am very impressed with what I saw. I was already supporting Latas because of his progressive views (PDA Endorsed, DFATucson Endorsed), but I think that despite the virtual MSM blackout of the real issues in this campaign, Latas will still reach the masses with his message. Despite being outspent by his opponents, it looks like Latas may yet pull this out! Let me know what you think.
