Yesterday, August 18, 2006, Camp Casey 3 converged outside the East Gate of Fort Hood in Killeen for a successful action in solidarity with US Army Spc Suzanne Swift, who is currently refusing redeployment under the command of the same individuals who are currently being investigated for rape and sexual harassment against her.
There are exciting plans in the works for the next two weeks at Camp Casey 3. Come join us on the amazing, beautiful land now called Camp Casey for the many programs, teach-ins, actions, and vigils for peace happening as we settle in to the neighborhood. (see extending body for details and schedule)
About twenty five people from Camp Casey, including members of Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Families Speak Out, and Gold Star Families For Peace distributed hundreds of cards, flyers and stickers with the GI Rights Hotline to the many supportive GIs leaving the base at the end of their day. There was a strong media presence, resulting in an article on the front page of the Killeen Daily Herald, which includes the GI Rights Hotline number and information about GI Rights. We have an ongoing project of building crosses for the soldiers killed since last August, which we need help with. Unfortunately, the number of crosses we need is more than the labor can handle.
This weekend holds some important training as we prepare our outreach campaign to area High Schools, Recruiting Offices and Ft. Hood.
