They said we would need a
perfect storm in Colorado's Fifth to win the 20-year Republican seat.
Can you say Cat 5 Hurricane? I knew you could.
Colorado Confidential lays the groundwork:
Republicans are seeing blue over state Sen. Doug Lamborn's primary win in the bid to replace Congressman Joel Hefley, and this week formally threw their support behind Democrat Jay Fawcett.
The defections started immediately upon the primary win of Doug Lamborn - the
dirtiest, most radical, and most ineffective member of the 6-man Republican primary team. The campaign took immediate advantage of this gift from right-wing voters too slow to see the
changing tide in Colorado.
First, the moderate sane Republicans chose Bill Ritter over Both-ways Bob Beauprez, a man trying to fail up in the best tradition of George W. Bush and the Republican Party.
Now they choose Jay Fawcett - an obvious choice with our current state of affairs, but one that will send shock waves through Colorado politics: these people never defect from the Republican Party.
Now they have, and it has spawned the birth of Republicans for Fawcett.
Republican City Councilman Scott Hente from Colorado Springs gave us the gold-plated quote:
"It's not as unusual as you would think," says Hente. "We're both retired Air Force Academy graduates, both Desert Storm veterans, we're both Bronze Star recipients; Jay and I have a lot in common."
That's gotta hurt. It seems Coloradans have had enough with the one-note, fundamentalist "Guns, God, and Gays" Republican agenda that has worked so well until now.
And if things are turning this fast for Democrats in the home of Focus on the Family and New Life Church, I'm sure they're changing in your neighborhood too.
I see that train a comin'.......
