Michael Calderin, 26, the youngest candidate for Congress is the Democratic nominee in Florida's 25th District. Michael is running against Bush Republican, Mario Diaz-
Balart.
District 25 encompasses Western Miami-Dade county, mainland Monroe County, and eastern Collier County.
Michael is running a campaign on true progressive ideals. Michael is a firm believer in good government. He believes it is absolutely necessary for the government to be responsive to our citizens. One of the main reasons Michael is running for this Congressional seat is because of the lack of response he felt the government had during Hurricane Katrina. As a native Miami, and having attended college at Tulane University in New Orleans, this hit home for him. Michael believes we must institute a Natural Disaster Insurance Plan similar to flood insurance. Where homeowners and businesses can opt-in and pay the premium thereby lowering rates for everybody.
As a veteran computer programmer, Michael believes that it is absolutely essential to have a voter-verified paper trail. Elections have always contained fraud, but its our responsibility as good citizens to minimize the chance for abuse. The first thing we need to do is reinstate the recount process and ensure the votes are being counted and recorded accurately.
On Iraq, Michael believes that it is time that we truly support our troops as opposed to blindly supporting the President as our opponent does. We must honor their commitment to protect us by protecting them. Michael supports a plan similar to that of Congressman Murtha. We must re-deploy our troops to the perimeter, and institute a time table for the Iraqis to take control of their government.
We must invest in our future for the prosperity of all of our citizens. Michael will be available for 3 hours to discuss our race and any questions you may have.
