Only FOX News would attempt to link New York Times article "Rove's Word Is No Longer G.O.P. Gospel" to Howard Dean via Bob Novak.
At any opportunity, this "news" organization will throw Dean under the bus, connecting dots when there are no dots to connect.
And use journalism's most cranky asshole, Bob Novak, to drive the bus over Dean.
To the right leaner, Novak's commentary would appear "fair and balanced". Sharp lefty eyes noted that the FOX News Live caption underlining Novak's endless condescending 9/3/2006 remarks led viewers to believe that Howard Dean was a mention in the New York Times article regarding Rove.
The gist of Novak's remarks cited Rove as less influential due to Bush's abysmal approval ratings, yet because Dean had failed to attract big Dem financial contributions, the DNC chair was becoming as inconsequential as Rove.
Well, finding it extremely hard to believe that one, the Times would diss Dean and two, equate Dean with Rove, I researched the article straight away...and of course, the reflection of Novak's B.S. off the FOX News mirror was blindingly inaccurate false commentary.
Novak's argument regarding Dean's ability to fundraise has been old school news that the GOP has tried to mind meld the general public into believing for some time.
"During all of the inane conversations about DNC Chairman Howard Dean's supposed inability raise sufficient dollars for his committee one key fact is too-often overlooked: Dean is bringing in significantly more hard dollars than any previous Democratic Party Chairman.
Republican committees have outraised Democrats by more than $100 million, but the GOP right now has a total cash on hand advantage of about $22M. The committee that has most improved its fundraising: Howard Dean's Democratic National Committee, which has raised twice as much hard money as in '01-02. (The party had also raised about $50m in largely unregulated contributions by this point in that cycle.)
The debate over Howard Dean's ability to foster activism and contributions from the party base is over and Dean must receive credit for his tremendous success in increasing the Democratic Party's ability to raise hard dollar donations." (Jonathan Singer, August 2006, MYDD citing The Hotline, August 1, 2006).
Nasty Novak went on to intimate that Al Gore was the true leader of the Democratic party, not Howard Dean.
The Reps certainly would be more comfortable with Gore as he is a fairly predictable politician and can be handled much the same. Gore is easy to "fight".
But Dean....Howard is no such bird. He is a maverick, a diehard Dem who bounced back after a media assasination led by the Beltway press during his run for President. Dean pilots his own plane so well that the Republicans don't know where to begin to dogfight this guy.
Dean is an enigma.
And I cannot believe Novak, after crowbarring Valerie Plame, is still considered a reputable source of any commentary.
But then, we are talking about FOX News, the bottom dwellers of journalism.
