Great news to report on the fundraising front!
Peter Goldmark has outraised his opponent for the second straight report, while the AWOL McMorris seems to be absent from this front, as well as others.
Peter Goldmark is going to report a total of over $300,000 raised for the months of July and August. His opponent,
Cathy Ann Rodgers nee
McMorris, has just filed her August 30 report with the Federal Elections Commission,
showing that she raised only $161,000 during those same months.
This marks the second straight FEC report where Goldmark has significantly outraised his opponent. Since April, the Goldmark campaign has raised over $510,000, while his opponent has raised just $286,000.
Considering the district voted 60/40 Republican in the last congressional contest, these fundraising totals may signal a significant shift in direction in the coming race. In addition, CQPolitics.com recently upgraded the race from Solid Republican to Republican Leaning.
McMorris' lack of visibility is beginning to be noticed. Peter Goldmark, a volunteer fireman himself, was briefed last Friday morning around 11 a.m. by the Incident Commander of the firefighters at their encampment in Waitsburg, about 20 miles north of Walla Walla. The encampment is said to be the largest in the nation, and the Tripod Fire the largest fire in the nation.
Neither hide nor hair has been seen of Cathy Ann. Perhaps she has taken a long honeymoon, as she is a newly blushing bride, though the event received surprisingly little notice. The nuptials were expected to be splashed all over, but instead, the announcement was a small correction (as far as I know) to a letter to the editor in the local paper.
As for Peter, campaign manager Jeremiah Levine says that Goldmark has hit 104 percent of its fundraising goal in this stage of the campaign. Additional television commercial buys are forthcoming. The race is definitely heating up!
The work continues with support from Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana coming to Spokane for a luncheon on Sept. 9th 12-2pm at the Caterina Winery(host reception at 11am). Former Speaker Tom Foley will be in attendance as well. In the meantime keep those contributions coming.
