My Direct TV Program Guide shows the 9/11 mini-series to be a total of six hours in length - (Part 1) - three hours on Sunday night and (Part 2) - three hours on Monday night. My live Tivo guide which is more current shows three hours on Sunday and two hours on Monday! It is presently scheduled to be five hours in length. ABC may have originally planned on six hours when the earlier guide went to press, but were not able to line up sponsors for the final hour and edited it back to five.
Another possibility is that the program was edited to take out portions that may have contrary to the story the right-wing pre-screeners wanted told. However, at this point we are left without knowing the reason or reasons for the change. A interesting third possibility is below the fold.
The final hour (10:00pm - 11:00pm) now has scheduled a ABC Special edition of Primetime. While almost nothing is said about the program on www.abc.com, this interesting bit of information is found on the
Fulon Critic website.
Charles Gibson will also anchor a special edition of Primetime -- 9/11/06: Where Things Stand -- on Monday at 10:00 p.m., ET (approximately), following the conclusion of the ABC miniseries The Path to 9/11.
and goes on to say:
Among the issues the special will examine: How safe are we five years later?; Why hasn't Osama Bin Laden been captured?; What more needs to be done to protect the U.S. from future attacks?
Rather interesting is who is scheduled to appear:
Chief Investigative correspondent Brian Ross, Justice Department correspondent Pierre Thomas and Good Morning America Weekend co-anchor Kate Snow will report on these and other subjects. Additionally, Thomas Kean, chair of the 9/11 Commission, and Richard Clarke, a former White House counterterrorism official and now an ABC News consultant, will appear live with Mr. Gibson.
It may be that this program was always scheduled and it was not indicated on the original scheduling supplied to Direct TV. If so, the question is then why Richard Clarke publicly spoke out if he previously knew he would be featured on a news program immediately following the so-called docudrama.
Of course, this is all speculation of my part, but it may just be that Kossacks have struck again!
