Little had no time to make a diary of her/his most excellent comment that uses Bush's own words to take him to task for trusting Pakistan, so I was given permission to do so in his/her stead:
From "Little" yesterday (http://www.dailykos.com/...):
President Bush said Pakistan "is a stalwart ally" in the war on terrorism
WASHINGTON (AFP)- He said, after September 11, 2001, President Musharraf agreed to help the United States and end scourge of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan's Taliban regime. "He did so immediately, and bravely."
Since then, he added, "we have stood shoulder to shoulder" with the government of Pakistan in the struggle against extremism.

President George W. Bush recently met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the White House. Mr. Bush said that Pakistan is cooperating with the U.S. "on a variety of issues":
"We're working closely to defeat the terrorists who would like to harm America and harm Pakistan.

My personal comment is this: How could anyone with half a brain leave Pakistan and the Karzai government to handle these intense and difficult extremists on their own? The Bush administration (which has ample foreign policy brain power, by the way) was so blinded with a desire for PERSONAL REVENGE upon Sadaam Hussein, that they FORGOT TO AVENGE THOSE WHO DIED ON 9/11.
