I saw Mark Warner last night at a relatively intimate fundraiser for Dina Titus for NV governor.
He was, in my judgment, incredibly well spoken and quite smooth. He scored points with every constituency there - environmentalists, organized labor etc. And he fit in a few glowing compliments for Ms. Titus, our hope for NV.
I especially liked how he linked alternative energy to national security, and controlling health care costs to global competitiveness.
So, coming from a political neophyte, the question is this: why isn't he the slam-dunk favorite horse in the '08 race?
He's attractive, educated, successful in business, incredibly succcessful as a governor, right on about 90% of the issues and apparently acceptable to the "bubba"/Nascar component of society. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Democrats win when they nominate Southern governors? What am I missing here?
I don't want us to nominate our favorite horse - I want a horse who can WIN.
