With Kossacks and the rest of the liberal blogosphere united against ABCs
Path to 9/11, there is precedent for a network to simply pull the plug on a show.
In 2003, CBS faced the same situation from conservative furor over the mini-series,
The Reagans.
According to this
CNN article, 'snippets' of the transcript had leaked and a portion of the transcript was printed in The New York Times. The part that conservatives protested was a line in the movie where Reagan was
depicted as uncaring and judgmental toward people with AIDS. "They that live in sin shall die in sin," Reagan's character tells his wife as she begs him to help AIDS victims.
Conservatives successfully argued that there is no evidence that Reagan ever said any such thing.
The show had been scheduled for November 16th & 18th, which is sweeps month. CBS pulled the plug on November 5th and offered this statement:
"We believe it does not present a balanced portrayal of the Reagans for CBS and its audience," the network said in a statement Tuesday.
For those of us who haven't emailed ABC and others yet, it may be helpful to remind them of the troubles CBS faced and how its network executives handled their 'problem'.
The solution is already out there. We just need to point ABC towards the correct 'path'.
