This situation with ABC's false "docudrama" is pretty serious. To think outright lies likes this could be dropped 2 months before election day is outrageous. And naturally, ABC won't allow any dissenting viewpoints allowed, even as paid advertising.
Fine. Whatever.
Now here's a suggestion for all of you who are LOST fans: Maybe it's time to use our fanbase to stick it to ABC. Sounds silly, but think about it. LOST saved ABC as a network, and it is one of the most popular TV shows on network TV right now (so much so it's being copied relentlessly).
As a fan, I always bought episodes on iTunes when I couldnt' watch it on TV. Those iTunes sales added up for ABC, and will do so again. Same with the DVD sales for Season 2.
(In fact, an economic analysis of paid downloaded shows indicates if just 10% of a show's audience buys a show on a service such as iTunes, the program makes more money off downloads of just 10% of the audience than it did in that episodes ads for that week. No joke!)
But maybe it's time to say "Sorry, ABC. Not buying it" instead.
I really like the show and hate to punish the creators for the sins of their corporate bosses, but lets face it, big companies respond to money not to ideals. So how about it folks? Maybe we get all the LOST fans to send an email to ABC saying "Not buying on iTunes or DVD" and send a CC to Steve Jobs, who owns the iTunes store (and happens to be the biggest shareholder at Disney) and see what happens?
Come on, it's not that bad an idea. Discuss.
