This is just one more "boycott Disney" diary, but with an idea that I haven't seen on the other diaries.
My family and I don't go to the movies very often, and we don't have cable. But we do RENT movies and TV series, in our case from Netflix (which we love). So, I went thru our Netflix queue and removed everything from ABC, Disney, Pixar, Buena Vista, etc. (List of Disney owned stuff at http://freepress.net/...)
My new idea was to also politely inform Netflix what I was doing...
We will miss all the Pixar movies (we just saw Cars in the theater and had hoped to rent it) but it's not worth enabling incompetent nutjobs and so endangering my family and my country.
Even if you are not a Netflix or Blockbuster by mail subscriber, you can also let your friendly neighborhood video store know that you won't be renting Disney content.
As an example, here's my letter to Netflix:
Dear Netflix Customer Service,
This is NOT a complaint against Netflix. (I am a very happy Netflix customer.)
NO REPLY or RESPONSE is required. This is FYI only.
My name is Charlie *****. I have been a Netflix customer since 09/30/2003.
Due to the unfortunate decision by ABC (owned by Disney) to distribute the right-wing propaganda and Clinton smear job entitled "The Path to 9/11", I can no longer do business with Disney.
I've removed Toy Story 1 & 2(Pixar), Oliver Twist & Treasure Island & National Treasure (Buena Vista), and Cracker (ABC) from my queue, and will furthermore no longer rent any content owned or distributed by Disney or it's subsidaries, including Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films, Hollywood Pictures, Buena Vista, etc.
Again, this is NOT a complaint against Netflix, and affects less than 10% of my Netflix rentals. I am informing you as a courtesy.
As a request, I have noticed that NBC, CBS, and Disney content are identified as such on your site (e.g. "NBC collection") but ABC is not. I can do the research on my own, but it would be helpful if you clearly identified ABC series as such.
In closing, I'll link to some other boycott diaries.
Lots of good ideas here.
