The diary with the exposure of the YWAM contributions to this atrocious 9/11 film, has been an uncomfortable place to read because of the extreme negativism and, yes, hate being projected out towards Christians in general there. I just wanted to set the record straight on a few points... it started as a comment... but I feel like it belongs in its own diary. I will admit this is purely an opinion piece.
A user on that forum posted several comments that both a) conflated Christianity with the Republican Party (something I hear too often on this forum) and also, and more unusually, b) blamed all war and human suffering on Religion. I would like to respond here on both points and show, breifly, how both ideas are in part a Republican frame, and also misinformed.
a) To call the Republicans the "Party of Christians" is first and foremost just buying into their spin. It's definately a title they would like to keep. One should note, firstly, that there are a lot of Christian, who are apolitical: Quakers, JWs, the Amish. But leaving those millions of people out of it for a moment... many argue that the Christians who vote on the issues (abortion, civil unions) have been long courted by a Republican party that was there before they seduced some Evangelical support. Look at the Episcopalians -- they have an openly homosexual Bishop I believe. Trust me: they don't all vote Republican. So, you see how to say that the Republicans are the "Chrisitan Party" is painfully inaccurate? They would love to say that they are, but they most definately are not!
B) One could argue Oil prevents peace, could they not? Many say that the War in Iraq is much more about our dependence on Middle-Eastern oil than Religious difference. Especially since it is well know that Bush's idiocy about Iraq being related to Muslim extremism is all lies. And they were looking for any excuse to go into Iraq -- and contrary to what they would have you believe -- it had nothing to do with the Crusades.
Other causes of war that aren't Religion:
a) Racism (see Rwanda)
b) Resources (see the Sudan, and countless other places throughout time)
c) Power (see Napoleon, Hilter, name a political dictator, and dictator, oh, and China)
There have been a few wars caused by Religion. Not that many lately -- and I think we here in the US, especially in the Bay Area, live in great peace surrounded by people of varying faiths. So to lay all the blame for the world's problems on Religion is it use it as a scapegoat.
Hate will never lead to peace, no matter its object.
