I am overjoyed to announce that there are a couple of Kossacks that, as of tonight, are engaged.
Old Abe, who is something of a lurker and who only posts occasionally, has asked dear old Auntie to join him on a lifelong path filled with love, hope, politics, and never-ending excitement.
We've been together for several years and had not planned on tying the proverbial knot any time soon. But as we get older we realize that managing the logistics of legal matters (wills, estate planning, retirement, health care issues, ad nauseam) is getting increasing daunting.
I think I speak for both of us when I say that we continue to dream of the day when ANYONE can get married in this country and enjoy the rights, responsibilities, and priveleges that go with it. Every single adult person in this world should have the right to enter into a legal, binding, committed relationship with whomever they choose. I wish that we could carry the torch and refuse to marry until that right is universal. But our circumstances just don't allow for that.
So wish us well, Kossacks. The official date is roughly six weeks from now.
Much love to all (and may ABC rot in ratings oblivion),
Auntie Neo Kawn
UPDATE: Old Abe is on thread...he thanks you, too
UPDATE #2, 12:00am PDT: My beloved Old Abe and I are off to bed, having committed to a weekend getaway that requires a three hour drive each way. Truly, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the DKos community for the thoughtful wishes, exceptional snark, and all-around fun tonight. And if any of the front pagers happen to chance across this, Abe and I met Markos at his book signing in April at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA. Please pass along the news...we think he kinda thought we were ok peeps.
