Did anyone see the broadcast today of the Preznit and the First Robot "mourning" at ground zero? They just re-aired it on C-SPAN and it is the most pathetic, telling clip of who this idiot is and what he cares about that I have ever seen.
A description and link to the video after ...
So his motorcade, three Men In Black looking, gas guzzling SUVs pull up to what we in New York know as the pit. They drive down the strange temporary driveways from street level towards the flattened earth below. They stop, and Bush and Bushette get out of the lead truck.
Together, hand in hand, both wearing black, they walk, rather briskly, down a path of gravel. Bush's face wears his usual expression of confusion, impatience and nervousness as they gallop along, his lips pursed to one side, his eyes squinted. His wife does little to distract from his goofiness, and in fact looks far less dignified (and far less sophisticated) than she once looked - as if her spirit has been tarred by the presence of his.
They arrive at a raised square pool of water - I assume the footprint of one of the buildings - and stop. A man in military regalia lifts a large circular wreath of flowers from a nearby stand, and hands it the President, as Mrs. Bush makes an overly ambitious display of helping him manage the thing. Awkwardly, and quickly, they place the wreath in the pool of water, and then straighten their postures looking happy to be free of it's weight.
As the flowers float wobbly towards the center of the pool, Mr. and Mrs. Bush hold hands, and like following steps in a dance routine, lower their heads immediately in a "moment of silence" pose.
Count 1 - 2- 3- 4- until 10 and BAM! moments over, heads are raised, and they're off back down the gravel path, back into the scary SUVs, back up out of the pit. Thank goodness that's over!
It was despicable. It felt like watching a movie about a time when people lived in an overtly "the emperor has no clothes" kind of moment. But it was C-SPAN and it really was happening.
It was so glaringly obvious that he did not honor the moment, that he had no decent sense to take a moment and contemplate the loss of life. Watching this, it suddenly occured to me that President Bush is like all of the characters Dorothy encounters in the Wizard of Oz, all rolled into one - he has no brain, no heart, no courage.
I hope, through some sort of grace of the universe, people mark this fifth anniversary of 9/11 by waking up from the spell that's been cast upon them and see these types of displays with all the horror they deserve.
UPDATEOk, so I can't find a link on C-Span online or anywhere else. Any tips? Will update when I find one! SCROLL DOWN for a photo thanks to Dkoser Glic and an excelent Disney-fyed one thanks to
