Alan Gentges is a real grass-roots candidate for Oklahoma's First Congressional District. The First District covers several counties in northeast Oklahoma and includes Tulsa and Bartlesville. Eighty percent of the district's population lives in Tulsa County.
Gentges, the son of a fireman and beauty school teacher, was the first in his family to graduate high school, much less college. He lives in Bartlesville and practices law in Tulsa, focusing on helping working families, people with disabilities, seniors and small and medium-sized businesses.
The First District is now represented by right wing lapdog John Sullivan, who wants the United States to "get out of the United Nations", stay the course in Iraq, and claims Qurans, Islamic writings and prayer rugs have been found in the Mexican desert. He tries to scare the people of his district with this kind of rhetoric but fails to vote for funding border and seaport security adequately. Sullivan has received more than $250,000 from Big Oil as part of the "Pay to Play" Republican scheme in Washington.
The contrast between the candidates couldn't be starker. Alan Gentges is a man devoted to doing the right thing and representing all of us in Congress. Sullivan on the other hand is bought and paid for through in the Republican "auction house" in Washington. His views are out-of-step with most fair-minded constituents of the First District.
This will be an uphill battle because there are more registered Republicans than Democrats in the district. Alan Gentges needs everyone's help.
