How bad does it have to get, when the
Washington Monthly asks Christopher Buckley, Bruce Bartlett, Joe Scarborough, William A. Niskanen, Bruce Fein, Jeffrey Hart, and Richard A. Viguerie to all sit down and write articles describing why they want the Democrats to win in November? These conservatives are so digusted by the policies, corruption, and incompetence of the current government that they are openly rooting for Democrats to win enough congressional seats in the mid-term elections to displace the Republicans.
It's not a new sentiment, however. Throughout the political field, we've seen a number of former Republican switch to Democratic tickets, including James Webb and all over the state of Kansas. The Republicans have controlled both branches of Congress, and the Presidency for 6 years now, and have so completely screwed things up, that their followers have now determined that Republicans cannot lead this country.
And they aren't mincing their words one bit.
Bruce Bartlett says "As a conservative who's interested in the long-term health of both my country and the Republican Party, I have a suggestion for the GOP in 2006: lose."
Joe Scarborough says: "After six years of Republican recklessness at home and abroad, I seriously doubt Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or the aforementioned Bourbon Street hookers could spend this country any deeper into debt than my Republican Party. With any luck, Democrats will launch destructive investigations"
They all echo similar sentiments. Finally, Americans on both sides of the political spectrum are waking up to the reality that Republicans are unable to lead this country, and change is needed in Novemeber.
