With seven weeks to go until the mid-term election the DCCC on its web-site has only web sites and candidate names for many of the Democratic challengers to Republican incumbents. Apparently the DCCC cannot be bothered to get to know all the Democratic candidates, let alone run a 435 district strategy.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is one pathetic mess. Take a look at its web site. Click on "Meet our Candidates." I have an interest in Illinois. For six of the Democratic challengers to Republican incumbents in Illinois the DCCC could only manage to put the challengers' names in with their web sites - try to find information on the DCCC web site about Joseph Shannon, Jonathan Laesch, Richard Aumun, Steve Waterworth, Danny Stove and Dr. David Gill. Nada. But the DCCC does have photos of all the Republican incumbents with oppo research that uses the same cliches for each incumbent that they are in bed with the oil companies. Aren't there any other issues out there? Republicans on the floor of the House have called a Democratic member of Congress a coward, and they and their supporters malign our representatives for things mostly untrue. Can't the DCCC, if they are going to tell us about Republican incumbents, put together individualized information showing the incumbents' weaknesses, vulnerablities, etc. And most tellingly, how hard is it to find a photo of a Democratic challenger and pull something off the challenger's web site - or even ask the campaign for information - so we actually can "meet" Democratic candidates. The DCCC really is not running a national campaign; it is putting its attention and money on a few favorites. Not much of a strategy to win the House, let alone anticipate opportunities created by the embarrasments, indictments, scandals, mispeaks and lies that might trip up sure-bet Republican incumbents.
