Does Nancy Boyda have a chance to win? Is this race entirely off the DCCC radar? Has everyone just written this race off because it involves a Democrat in Kansas?
In addition to the
internal poll released by the Boyda campaign last week that showed her with a slight, albeit within the margin of error, lead, as I drive daily around the 2nd district (where I live), I have seen not one Jim Ryun sign, poster, sticker, campaign staffer, or even anything remotely Republican. Meanwhile, no one can miss the Boyda signs, even as far north as Horton, KS, and all throughout the rest of the district. The west side of Lawrence, which is certainly the more conservative part of the city, is covered with Boyda yard signs.
I have seen one Jim Ryun commercial, in which he claimed that "liberals in Washington" have prevented him from passing meaningful energy legislation in recent years.
I realize that internal polls are going to be slanted. But, with an enormously popular Democratic governor Kathleen Sebelius at the top of the ticket, an extremely controversial Republican (Phil Kline) trying to win reelection and a number of our famous state school board members (intelligent design) up for reelection, is this race really a lost cause?
