In a continuing effort to come up with some other language than "Our platform is jobs, damn it!" I bring you my second generic democratic political spot Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself is now airing on YouTube.
Kos's front pager "Dems to run on...the economy?" expresses exactly why a smarter language needs to be aired. There are plenty of jobs, many people are working more than one. I have known for a long time that it takes over two jobs (without childcare) or an upper income to keep a family under roof, fed, insured, and educated at what might have been considered a middle class existence half a century ago. But the fantasy of a lazy boy and a pipe and a dog with slippers in its mouth as the epitome of life has disappeared along with the single income family. It does not seem that the fulfillment of that desire would drive anyone to act for change, to act politically, to vote. To me it seems that at the moment what might commit someone to act is anger, or at least the expression of its cause.
My fantasy at the moment is to spread various messages by YouTube to permeate in the zeitgeist another language, another vernacular, another conversation that might stir the pot a bit and help to bring about change in our government. I might not be at the pulpit of a mega-church, but hopefully, as the conservatives did so well for the last thirty years via televangelism, we can bend some ears into working with us.
You can find my first spot "Right Direction" in this diary.
