Last week, Ohio Rep. Bob Ney
pled guilty for accepting tens of thousands of dollars worth of trips, meals, sports tickets and casino chips from convicted congressional briber Jack Abramoff and his cronies. Prosecutors recommended he serve 27 months in prison for selling our country's legislation to the highest bidder.
Ney, who had denied any impropriety since the investigation began, changed his tune. "I have made serious mistakes and am sorry for them."
In the House, Duke Cunningham is in jail. Ney bas been convicted and is on his way to jail. Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay resigned in disgrace. Multiple staffers have pled guilty and are under investigation.
But Rep. John Doolittle - with deep ties to both the Abramoff and Cunningham bribery scandals - remains defiant.
More on the flip.
Doolittle has yet to apologize for his actions.
He has not given back or donated one dime of the over $220,000 in tainted contributions tied to the Abramoff and Cunningham bribery scandals.
He has admitted personally earmarking $37 million in unneeded defense contracts to Cunningham's convicted and indicted cronies.
He is on record supporting, promoting and funding the government of the Northern Marianas Islands that has openly tolerated sweatshops, forced abortions, sex slavery and religious persecution - actions solely taken to benefit Jack Abramoff.
Doolittle continues to pay his wife 15% of contributions to his campaign. The Doolittle family's estimated take from George W. Bush's upcoming visit is $75,000.
He has yet to explain why Abramoff paid $5,000 a month to his wife's consulting firm for almost a full year after the event she was hired to manage was canceled. Or why her only clients were Abramoff related firms or sham charities.
Doolittle's former chief of staff, who invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in front of the Senate, continues to lobby Congress.
Doolittle continues to tell his constituents to hire a lobbyist if they need help in Washington.
Doolittle just doesn't get it. The evidence is clear and the pattern is the same. John Doolittle is next up to the corruption and bribery plate. Doolittle is in the Justice Department crosshairs.
But we cannot sit by. The evidence of impropriety is overwhelming but the wheels of justice turn slowly. It is up to us - you, me, our campaign - to take matters into our own hands. To stand up and say this is not ok in America. We have 43 days to state our case to the people of CA-04, to show them the truth and show them an alternative.
Please, help us make our case.
